Stompin Ground has been taking Rock music out for a ride in new directions since reforming in 2005. Still, the Richmond, VA based quartet never loses sight of its more traditional influences in the rear view mirror of its musical journey.
The group quickly advanced beyond mere "cover band" status when they began penning songs which were a habit-forming blend of funky roots-rock and the band's beloved southern grooves which has fueled their rapidly growing popularity with local audiences. Rick Benson’s soulful, muscular vocals fit snugly against the impressive wall of sound boasted with the guitar of John Hazelwood and the slick and fat bottom end of drummer Danny Mizelle and bassist Dave Runner. An effortless accomplishment that only serves to further burnish Stompin Grounds well-earned reputation, which showcases some of the best talent and music the region has to offer. SG doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but they pay homage to the ‘60s & 70’s rock movement through their hypnotic -- high energy -- southern funk rock grooves, quartet vocal harmony and in your face performances. “It's a distinctive sound that appeals to all-rock fans, as a stated goal of making” old music sound new and new music sound old." |
